1. UECBV is seeking for immediate recruitment of a
Advisor on Food Policy & Sustainability
The successful candidate will join the Brussels-based team and participate in the running of the UECBV structure, in the heart of the European quarter.

Main responsibilities and tasks:
  • Management and preparation of technical and regulatory files as well as communication material related mainly to sustainability issues (environmental, ethical & product quality issues)
    , biodiversity, circular economy, food waste, food information to consumers, innovation and new technologies, biotechnologies, nutrition-related matters, meat image.
  • Providing policy advice and technical assistance towards the development of advocacy strategies, and the work of the experts of UECBV working groups: meat industry section, climate change task force, Meat Image communication network.
  • Representing the association, preparing working documents, briefings, assisting working group meetings, delivering presentations, drafting position papers, issuing papers, meeting minutes, technical reports etc.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with EU institutions (including European Agencies) and other international organisations (e.g. FAO)
  • Travel will be required

  • Required qualifications and competencies:
    • A university degree in science-related fields, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Environmental economy; postgraduate studies in European law/politics or science degrees (vets, food science,…) would be an advantage
    • Knowledge of the EU regulatory functioning and environment (experience with food legislation is an asset)
    • Work experience: at least two years
    • Internship in EU institutions is a plus
    • Strong team working ability and flexibility to integrate into different fields of work
    • Excellent communication and language skills: English is a MUST; other EU languages are an asset
    • Standard computer/IT skills, including MS-Windows and its applications

    2. an Intern .

    Overall requirements:
    Provide research support to the UECBV Public Affairs practice, covering a wide range of policy areas, such as:  animal health, animal welfare, customs procedures, common agricultural policy, EU trade agreements, veterinary and food safety, labeling, climate change and environment.

    • Work on the web-site and the integrated common office
    • Coordinate the Meat Image Network
    • Drafting fact sheets
    • UECBV Newsletter drafting
    • Research and internet monitoring of activities of the EU Institutions
    • Assistance with responses to members’ requests
    • Attendance at policy conferences and institutional meetings, e.g. European Parliament committees and preparing reports on discussions
    • Maintenance of files and contact lists

    Ad hoc projects:
    Depending on the moment of the internship, the intern may also be involved in preparation and organization of larger projects, such as general assemblies and international conferences.

  • Postgraduate studies in Science degrees (vets, food science, agriculture, environment, nutrition), European law/politics or Communication.
  • Experience in agriculture, consumers protection, environment and trade fields are a plus
  • Good understanding of EU procedures / EU institutions
  • English and at least one other EU language
  • Pro-active approach and team work oriented
  • Master MS Office tools (excel, power point, etc..) and searching tools like Google and others Flexibility and willingness to learn Accuracy and attention to detail; interest and diligence in research work
